Disney held the return of its biggest fan convention D23 Expo over the weekend. It’s the first one since 2019, and fans from all over the world flocked to Anaheim, California to celebrate all things Disney. Attendees were treated to a ton of exclusive clips, reveals, and announcements of upcoming projects not only for Disney, but its owned properties like Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and much more.

A majority of news and announcements are made in panels behind closed doors, but several trailers of Disney’s shows and films that are about to released soon have been released to the public. In my opinion, these are the biggest standouts from D23 Expo – at least the ones that have actual trailers, instead of still being in production – and what I’m most looking forward to. Check them out below.

Secret Invasion

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury returns in Secret Invasion, an original series about the shape-shifting aliens called Skrulls (who originally appeared in Captain Marvel) that have infiltrated all aspects of life on Earth. Joining him are Ben Mendehlson, Cobie Smulders, and Don Cheadle, plus we get our first glimpse of Olivia Colman as Special Agent Sonya Falsworth and Emilia Clarke in an undisclosed role as of yet. Judging by the trailer, the series appears to be more serious in tone, which is what Marvel absolutely needs at this point.

Secret Invasion streams 2023 on Disney+.

Werewolf by Night

This is possibly the biggest surprise for me as it came out of nowhere, but a very welcome one nonetheless. Just in time for Halloween season, Werewolf by Night is a TV special based on the character of the same name set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It follows a secret cabal of monster hunters as they gather in Bloodstone Temple after the death of their leader. Gael Garcia Bernal stars Jack Russell/Werewolf by Night alongside Laura Donnelly and Harriett Sansom Harris. It looks like Marvel Studios is finally doing something out of their usual structure, as the overall presentation seems be an homage to the classic horror films of Universal Pictures in the 1930’s.

Werewolf by Night streams October 7, 2022 on Disney+.

The Mandalorian Season 3

After being cast out in Mandalorian society (“You are a Mandalorian no more.”), where does he go from here? That’s what we will find out in the third season of The Mandalorian, where our helmeted hero Din Djarin takes on the path of redemption across the galaxy with Grogu back at his side. To me, this is still the best Star Wars show Disney+ has put out so far, so I’m excited for this one. You can’t deny the star power of Baby Yoda!

The Mandalorian Season 3 streams February 2022 on Disney+.

Andor

Disney released a final trailer for Andor ahead of its 3-episode premiere on September 21. Set five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Diego Luna reprises his role as Cassian Andor as he gets recruited into the Rebellion to fight against the Empire. It’s incredible what shooting on location can do your production as opposed to being confined in the Volume, as the show already looks visually breathtaking from the trailers alone.

Disney already confirmed the show will have two seasons with 12 episodes each. Andor premieres September 21, 2022 on Disney+.

Willow

The next great adventure begins in Willow, a new series based on and serves as a sequel to the 1988 film of the same name. Warwick Davis returns as Willow Ufgood and leads a new group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world. The original film is an underrated fantasy classic, garnering up its own following to merit a series continuation. Of course, it could also be Disney banking on nostalgia as they usually do.

Willow streams November 30, 2022 on Disney+.
